SaliCheck Terms of Service

Who we are

SaliCheck is a product of Formartine Bio Ltd, a company registered in Scotland, registered office at Kinburn Castle, Doubledykes Road, St Andrews, Fife, KY16 9DR ("Formartine Bio," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SaliCheck mobile application and this website (together, the "Service"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. Eligibility

SaliCheck is intended for use by adults aged 18 and over. By using the Service you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a binding agreement.

2. What SaliCheck Is — and Is Not

SaliCheck helps you check whether a personal care product's listed ingredients contain named salicylate ingredients (salicylic acid, its salts and esters, and a small number of plant ingredients with documented salicylate content), by matching against open ingredient databases ( Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts) or by reading a photographed ingredient list. SaliCheck does not check medicines or foods.

SaliCheck is not a medical device, is not a substitute for professional medical advice, and does not confirm that any product is safe for you to use. A result of "No Listed Salicylate Ingredients Found" means only that none of the terms SaliCheck checks for were present in the ingredient list it examined at the time of the scan — it is not a guarantee of safety, and it does not account for formulation changes, database gaps, cross-contamination, or individual sensitivity. You should always check the physical product label yourself and consult a pharmacist, GP, or allergy specialist before using any product, particularly where a reaction could be serious.

3. Subscriptions and Payment

SaliCheck includes a limited number of free scans. Further use requires SaliCheck Pro, available as an auto-renewing subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, at the price and terms shown in the app at the time of purchase.

If a free trial is offered and you do not cancel before it ends, you will be charged the subscription price and any unused portion of the trial is forfeited. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription automatically renews for the same length and at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple ID Account Settings. We do not process cancellations or refunds directly — these are handled through the App Store in accordance with Apple's terms. Any introductory rate applies only for as long as your subscription remains continuously active; if you cancel and resubscribe later, the then-current standard price may apply.

4. Accuracy of Information

SaliCheck relies on third-party, community-maintained open databases ( Open Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, and Open Products Facts) and on optical text recognition of photographs you take. These sources can be incomplete, outdated, or contain errors, and manufacturers can reformulate products without notice. We make reasonable efforts to keep results useful, but we do not warrant the completeness or accuracy of any result.

5. Your Contributions

If you choose, you can contribute an ingredient list you have checked in the app to Open Beauty Facts. You can only do this after confirming that the text is the complete ingredient declaration on the product packaging, and nothing is submitted automatically. Your contribution (the ingredient text and, if you took one, the front-of-pack photo) becomes publicly visible as part of that open database. In line with Open Beauty Facts' contributor terms, you place the ingredient data and text you contribute under the Database Contents Licence (DbCL), and any photograph you contribute under the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike licence (CC BY-SA), as described in our Privacy Policy. Do not submit photographs containing personal information about yourself or others.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; attempt to interfere with, disrupt, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its underlying systems; scrape, reverse-engineer, or resell the Service or its data; or submit false, misleading, or abusive content through the ingredient-contribution feature.

7. Intellectual Property

The SaliCheck name, logo, app, and website content (excluding third-party ingredient data, which remains subject to its own open licences) are owned by Formartine Bio Ltd and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our permission.

8. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Formartine Bio Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of health, data, or use, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the Service — including any allergic or adverse reaction to a product, whether or not SaliCheck flagged that product. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Formartine Bio Ltd from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your misuse of the Service or breach of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you breach these Terms. You may stop using the Service, and cancel any subscription, at any time as described in Section 3.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you under the law of the country in which you reside.
